Vacation Time
Monday, July 20, 2009 - 10:38 PM
Going on vacation with children with sensory issues or autism requires some extra planning. Of course I always have the multi-sensory tool bag ready to go. I just do a double check to make sure each tool is operating (the ones with batteries).

Now that T is older (10), I like to get him to help with the packing. That way he is sure to have some clothes that he enjoys wearing. Even if that means long sleeve shirts all summer. But I pack some t-shirts and other dress shirts with short sleeves
Talk to a Professional
Friday, June 26, 2009 - 7:52 PM

Okay, I know in the past I have joked about writing being cheaper than talking to a professional but I’ve learned the benefits to talking out loud about things.

Appointments were made with a doctor, developmental pediatrician, audiologist, and pediatric gastroenterologist. (The stomach and bowel issues will require a whole post to itself.) We also had a home visit from an intake person from the
Is There Something Wrong?
Tuesday, June 23, 2009 - 9:43 PM
My first blog post on the site. How exciting - for me; and hopefully mildly entertaining, amusing, or somewhat helpful for you. A couple of dear friends recommended that I open myself up in order to fulfill my quest to help other families and heighten an awareness of autism and sensory processing difficulties. I am not going to write in a chronological order but just as I feel compelled to write on certain topics.

I still remember the day very clearly when I realized that something was
